Hip-Hop Conversations- Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan Title: Conversations on Hip Hop.
Class Level - 11th and 12th Grade Level

Concept / Topic To Teach: Hip Hop, What’s the Real Issue

General Goal - Discuss and analyze the politics of Hip Hop and the affects it has on the youth culture.

Specific Objectives - Understanding the real issues surrounding the Hip Hop Culture.

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):
The teacher will pose the question, “What is Hip-Hop and is it relevant in today’s society?”

Step-By-Step Procedures:
Students will:
1. discuss their definition of Hip Hop, as a class
2. work in groups of 3 to research the meaning of Hip Hop and it’s impact on the American Society. This research will be done via the internet. (see links below)
3. view 4 segments of the video “Hip Hop vs. America” http://brogdonhiphop.blogspot.com This is a National public forum on the state of Hip Hop culture. Students will discuss each segment as a class as well as individual groups and highlight main points of the segments,
4. create an 15 minuet informative as well as creative video presentation of their finding from their discussions.


Steps to creating the Video Presentation

A. Decide on the main ideas you want to convey in your video,
B. Write a script based on those findings.
C. Shoot the video based on the script.


Assessment Based On Objectives:
A. Brainstorming
B. Scriptwriting
C. Final Production

Closure: Upon completing the project, students will present their videos to the class. As well as post their videos on YouTube, and Veoh.
